Supporting Educators’ Academic Literacies and Enhanced Discourse (SEALED)
From 2017-2020, the University of Miami (UM) along with partner Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) worked to support teachers and improve K-12 student learning in schools serving culturally, linguistically, and learning students in inclusive, regular, or special education secondary classrooms.
SEALED, funded by a U.S. DOE grant, aimed to increase: (1) the number of diverse and highly qualified teachers serving diverse learners in urban secondary schools; (2) teachers’ knowledge and use of targeted instructional practices for diverse learners; and (3) to support and enhance teachers’ facilitation of their students’ engagement with school and community. A total of 116 teachers participated in the SEALED project, which also aims to investigate the value of master’s degree programs for practicing teachers’ professional development. A repository of participating teachers’ online-recorded professional development sessions and related practical resources is currently under construction. Visit site
